Zuellig Pharma has developed Blockchain-based ‘eZTracker’ System for Covid-19 Vaccines
The Singapore-based pharmaceutical company, Zuellig Pharma has invented a blockchain-based efficient solution to monitor exact Covid-19 vaccinations. The company presented a management system called ‘eZTracker’. The system can efficiently protect its clients from distributing wrongly stored or expired vaccines. The new management system has the ability to verify the source and genuineness of their vaccines using a phone app.
This newly developed management system is designed for the clients of Zuellig Pharma including vaccine distributors and storage service providers. Currently, the vaccination efforts against Covid-19 in Singapore are still ongoing.
SAP Blockchain for Vaccine Effectiveness Tracker
SAP blockchain has the capability to capture, track, and trace various data points to enhance the overall supply chain performance. The system allows point-to-point tracking and sending reports of various objects and business operations.
The official website of eZTracker also reported that the newly developed eZTracker is a mobile app featuring blockchain technology to identify if your product is officially approved for distribution in your area. You just need to scan the QR code on the package to immediately confirm the authenticity of the product coming from a distributor.
The app determines every scan after once scanning the QR code against collected information on a blockchain. It effectively covers the overall supply chain including manufacturer, supplier, healthcare provider, and distributor. It offers a form to be filled if the app collapses to bring data around the scanned QR code.
Moreover, the Malaysian government has been threatening the abilities of blockchain technology to avoid scams related to the certifications of the Covid-19 vaccination.
Malaysian Sejahtera System
Sejahtera system in Malaysia can efficiently prevent duplication or fake certificates of vaccination. But the system will just approve certification issued using blockchain technology under the Covid-19 National Immunization program.
Blockchain technology can effectively support the crypto sector. It is similar to a shared database to distribute and save data in a digital form among different devices on a network.
Zuellig Pharma also said government and private clients can confirm the genuineness and originality of vaccines and other healthcare-related products with eZTracker management system.
Patients will be able to scan the QR data matrix labeled on the product package to confirm major information such as suggested temperature, expiry date, and authenticity using the blockchain-based app. It would not confirm or prevent improperly stored or expired vaccines.
Use of Expired Covid-19 Vaccines
It is noteworthy that the Hong Kong health officials announced on 12th January that a private healthcare center in Hong Kong used expired Covid-19 vaccines injected in at least 35 people. The clinic injected a German-made BioNTech vaccine in 12 people.
Zuellig Pharma partnered with Moderna in April 2021 to manage the supply of the Covid-19 vaccine for the US pharmaceutical company in Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, Taiwan, and Macau. Point to be noted that the Covid-19 Moderna vaccine is still unavailable in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong is still in the middle of the 5th wave of the Covid-19 pandemic as the city records several hundreds of cases during the last couple of days. A government health official also warned that increasing Covid-19 cases could decline in the next 3 months.
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime issued a report that suggested consumers in Southeast Asia are spending between $520 million and $2.5 billion in one year to purchase fake or unauthorized medicines. Hong Kong authorities captured around 110 thousand tablets and 2 liters of alleged fake medicine.
