Will Trump to announce Lockdown in the US after the UK?
On Saturday, 10th coronavirus death was reported across the UK. It prompted Boris Johnson to announce radical plans for a National Effort to tackle the widespread COVID-19 virus. There are a large number of confirmed people infected with the deadly coronavirus across the United Kingdom. It is noteworthy that the UK death toll nearly doubled in 24 hours. The Prime Minister should motivate manufacturers to come forward for the production of new ventilators and other essential medical equipment to prepare for increased pressure on the NHS. On Monday, PM Johnson will confirm the government is to buy up stocks of the new equipment, in a conference call with firms.
The expected partnership between the government and private sectors will also extend to hospitals, with the negotiations between the NHS and private health firms to enhance the capacity. A news outlet has indicated that the NHS would pay for access to beds in private hospitals. There was an increase of pressure on the government from hundreds of scientists. Last night, they have warned the official response to the coronavirus outbreak is risking many more lives. They said in an open letter that at least 295 academics living and working in the UK backed calls for immediate measures to restrict the spread of Covid-19.
UK Scientists have criticized the government strategy of delaying restrictions in a bid to achieve gathering immunity. They argued it would put the NHS under even more stress. The criticism from scientists follows the latest guidance from the SAGE (Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies) that household isolation would soon be needed to shield the vulnerable. Some reports have indicated a new proposal is likely to be presented within the next 20 days, in another unprecedented move. It would strict people aged over 70 to stay at home for 4-months. It is important that Spain and France have announced partial lock-downs and the UK is also considering more restrictive measures to stop the spread of COVID-19.
