The U.S President Appointed Fatima Noor as the Head of USCIS at the Homeland Security Department
The University of Memphis had announced on 3rd July 2014 about their three graduate students including a female student Fatima Noor, had appointed for full-time job with the Obama administration. This announcement activated panic in some communities due to Noor was showing as a Muslim in most of the pictures. She didn’t mention specifically her religious connection in her LinkedIn profile, but she was wearing a Hijab in her profile on the Muslim Media Network. This situation originated debates and a disreputable news website published an article on 31st August 2014 with a title “Alert! Obama Appointment of Fatima Noor as Asst Director for U.S Citizenship & Immigration! What”. This article directly collected from the announcement of the University of Memphis, but mentioned incorrectly about the position of Fatima Noor as Assistant Director at USCIS.
Fatima Noor was born in Somalia and she was relocated to a refugee camp in her early childhood in Kenya. She grew up in the care of a relative living in Denmark. She was ultimately rejoined her parents and family members in Memphis at the time when her father was settled as a refugee in Tennessee and became a U.S citizen in 2013. The Memphis Business Journal explained that the position landed by Fatima Noor was one of the traditionally filled by graduates from Ivy League schools. But, she was not appointed directly by the U.S President Barak Obama. A blog post from White House on 29th June indicated that Fatima Noor was appointed as a Policy Analyst for Immigration & Rural Affairs.
