Trump invalidates Security Clearance of John Brennan
The U.S President Donald Trump has suggested that he invalidated security clearance of John Brennan. He said that the former CIA chief is partially responsible for the Russian investigation. The U.S President Trump immediately removed the ability of Brennan to access sensitive government information documents. Trump also called it the rigged and these people led it, so something should be done. The statement of Trump didn’t mention the connection to special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the U.S Presidential election 2016. The initial statement of Trump denounced Brennan’s criticism on Trump. Trump said that he was fulfilling his constitutional responsibility for protecting the classified information of the nation. Trump also threatened to invalidate the clearance of a host of former law enforcement, current member of the Justice Department, and top intelligence officials.
This move took place following the latest controversy on the U.S President after allegations of racism by former adviser Omarosa Manigault Newman. The current action from Trump against Brennan marked an unprecedented politicization of the security clearance process of the U.S government. It indicates a clear battle from Trump with members of the U.S intelligence community. Democratic members of the U.S Congress are also reacting to the initial announcement from Trump. They said that his action smacked of an Enemies List among fellow Americans and mocked the behavior of leaders in dictatorships, not democracies. Brennan said in a phone interview with MSNBC and called the move an abuse of power by Trump. He added that he doesn’t believe that Trump has decided to take this action as he has done with the others.
