Terrorist Attack on the American University in Kabul, Afghanistan
At least 1 person killed and more than 25 injured in an attack on the American University in Kabul on 24th August 2016. Any group hasn’t yet claimed responsibility of this attack. A number of media channels reported that the assault started with a Huge Blast, which bounded students and staff inside the University. An eyewitness and student at the University Ahmed Mukhtar said to BBC that he was almost 100 meter away from the main entrance of the University and going to home when he heard a heavy blast and several gunshots. The explosion generated much fire & smoke that suddenly lit up nearby area and he climbed on a six meter wall & escaped. The photographer of Associated Press Massoud Hossaini and 15 other students were also trapped inside the classroom of the campus.
He said “after a blast, when I tried to find out situation outside, I saw from window and a man started gunfire at me, he threw 2 grenades inside the classroom which injured a number of students”. The official website of the American University indicated that American University is a nonprofit private school and at least 1,700 students are enrolled at the Kabul campus. It is offering English language and professional development classes along with the courses of undergraduate and graduate. The American University of Afghanistan opened in 2006 and serve to more than 1,700 students, but the management of the American University didn’t yet comment on this incident. It was the 2nd attempt against foreigners as in the beginning of current month two professors (an American & Australian) were kidnapped from the capital of Afghanistan.
