Resignation of U.S Ambassador to Estonia due to Comments of Trump
News outlets have reported that the U.S ambassador to Estonia has resigned due to dissatisfactions with the comments of U.S President Donald Trump regarding the European Union and his dealings with European allies of Washington. The U.S ambassador James D. Melville wrote in a private Facebook message that the U.S President said, EU was established to get the benefit of the United States in order to attack our piggy bank, and NATO is bad as NAFTA. It is not just factually incorrect but allows me that it is time to go. Melville referred to recent comments of Trump on social media and at news conferences. He added that now it is the time to resign.
Point to be noted that Melville has been considered a senior U.S career diplomat. He has served as the American ambassador in the Baltic nation and NATO member of Estonia since 2015. He also served at the U.S. Embassies in Moscow, Berlin, and London, among other major postings. He served during 6 U.S presidents and 11 secretaries of state. He wrote that he never really thought it would reach that point for him. He referred to a career with the U.S State Department, started during the mid-1980s. The U.S. Embassy in Tallinn also confirmed on Saturday that Melville has announced his retirement from the U.S Foreign Service on 29th July 2018 after serving 33 years of public service. The Foreign Policy magazine has indicated that Melville is one of the various senior U.S. diplomats resigned due to alleged policies of the U.S President Donald Trump.
