Principality Launched Pfizer-BioNTech Vaccination Campaign Against New Variants
The Principality launched its vaccination campaign with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine against Covid-19, on Monday, October 10, 2022. Keep in mind that the infection rate is increasing again in Monaco and France. This vaccine is perfect for the original strain, the currently most common variants, and the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 variants.
The vaccine is anticipated for fully vaccinated people. They should have already gotten at least 2 vaccine doses or a dose and contracted the virus-positive PCR test. However, the booster dose is just specifically recommended for people aged 60 and above, and pregnant women. One can make an appointment with the Covid-19 call center. The booster dose is available on the Government of Monaco website from 9 am to 5 pm.
Meanwhile, people aged 12 and above are also eligible to receive an initial Pfizer-BioNTech injection dose. The pandemic has returned again in Monaco and France. The regional health authority of Santé Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur issued a statement. The infection rate has significantly increased over the last couple of months, especially in the Alpes-Maritimes.
235 Covid-19-Related Cases Reported on October 9
The Alpes-Maritimes recorded 390 positive cases per 100 thousand populations to last week’s reported 316 cases. The infection rate in the Principality recorded 235 positive cases per 100 thousand citizens on Sunday, October 9. However, the Principality reported 197 cases last week. On October 9, eight people were hospitalized at the CHPG, but no one was admitted to the intensive care unit.
Moreover, Covid-19 has become a novel crisis in recent history. Europe experienced its first Covid-19 cases on January 24, 2020. The epidemiological condition in Monaco is constantly growing. The first case of the infection in Monaco was officially confirmed on February 28, 2020. Monaco is continuously experiencing a significant increase in the number of affected people.
Principality Experienced a Lockdown in March
The authorities took measures designed at limiting the spread of the Covid-19 virus in the Principality. They are also offering significant support to the population and financial entities. However, there was a lockdown imposed from March 17 to May 3, featuring various preventive measures. The authorities also imposed curfews and closing of multiple facilities and businesses.
The psychosocial distress, especially for isolated people, elders, Covid-19 patients, and their relatives was severely affected by the crisis. Monaco Red Cross is continuously deploying various services, training & outfitting health professionals, and businesses & residents. They are also providing pharmaceutics and food items to quarantined people.
2nd Wave in the Principality of Monaco in November 2020
The government of Monaco established a 16-bed unit dedicated to Covid-19 patients with pulmonary symptoms. However, the government is expected to enhance the capacity with up to 30-beds and 7 CCUs (critical care units). Keep in mind that the Monaco hospital currently has 8 resuscitation beds and 4 beds of a constant surgical monitoring unit.
The vaccination campaign of the government of Monaco is ongoing throughout the country without any support from Red Cross. Meanwhile, the last wave hit Monaco at the start of July 2021. Delta variant was the latest wave spreading across Europe. The number of Covid-19 cases in Monaco was recorded lower in August compared to July reported cases.
