President Trump confirmed All States will be opened on individual dates
US President Donald Trump backed down from the threat after claiming he has the Total Authority. The move came hours after he alleged Democratic governors of a mutiny for signaling they would ignore any presidential order to reopen their states in the middle of widespread coronavirus. President delivered his words during a combative evening press conference on Monday. He spoke about his special power to reopen the US with a single declaration. He then said, “When somebody is the president of the United States, the authority is total. And that’s the way it’s got to be. It’s total”. But, President Trump backed down after just 24 hours.
The recent move from Trump came at a wrapping speed and whipsawed from one policy stance or legal rationale to another, and sometimes to yet another. Now President said, “These will be individual dates. I’m not putting any pressure on the governors”. Trump earlier threatened to close them down and start over if any governor’s plan is found ineffective by the US federal officials. He said getting ahead of his own promised announced about reopening the United States from economic lockdown. He said, “We’ll open it in beautiful little pieces”. He also said that he is looking to allow each state to design a reopening plan workable for their states. Trump affirmed that he will use his Total power to approve their supposed plans.
Some legal experts said the lone way Trump likely would win a court battle over the authority would be to claim a national security authority. But it would likely be an easier sell to a court on closing the economy, not reopening it. It is noteworthy that the White House never produced such a legal rationale. Trump said on Monday that he needs some or entire country to open for business by 1st May 2020. He again said he is working on plans to achieve that. Trump also confirmed he is nearing a decision on whether that would be possible, at least for some states or regions in the United States.
