President Trump boils over alleged Unfairness of Impeachment Process
Donald Trump boils over the alleged unfairness of the impeachment process confronting him. Trump’s lawyers have urged the U.S Senate to swiftly reject the impeachment charges. Trump criticized Democrats for having overseen a process that was skewed against him. He wrote on Twitter, “Cryin’ Chuck Schumer is now asking for fairness, when he and the Democrat House members worked together to make sure, I got ZERO fairness in the House. So, what else is new”? The comments of President came as his lawyers urged Senators to reject the 2 impeachment articles approved from the House of Representatives, and sent up for Senate trial. These 2 articles include abuse of power and obstruction of justice.
Democrats have filed a 111-page document before a deadline. Trump’s lawyers claimed the President had done nothing wrong. The case against him involves a twisting of the constitution and it was part of a broader illegitimate partisan effort to take him down by Democrats. The case against Trump was stirred up after the scandal appeared last autumn from a member of the U.S intelligence community that the president had on a July 25 phone call with the leader of Ukraine. Trump asked him to launch an investigation into his political rival former vice president Joe Biden and his son Hunter. On Monday, House Speaker assigned Democrats to oversee the prosecution of the case against Trump.
It is noteworthy that the U.S Senate could vote for witnesses with just a simple majority because Republicans control the chamber 53 – 47. McConnell and other party lawyers from both sides are studying the way the Senate handled the 1999 case against former U.S President Bill Clinton. Democrats controlled the chamber on that occasion. There were a total of 3 witnesses who gave video depositions, including former White House intern Monica Lewinsky. But live testimony of witnesses wasn’t permitted in the chamber. Now, Democrats want to persuade just 4 Republican Senators. Trump’s lawyers said President Trump maintains that the Senate can’t remove him even if the House proves every claim in the articles of impeachment. That is a chilling assertion. It is also dead wrong.
