Iran has agreed to limit its Uranium Enrichment after lifting US Sanctions
On Sunday, the President of Iran Hassan Rouhani issued a statement that his country was prepared to take steps to live up to measures in the 2015 nuclear deal with world powers as soon as the United States lifts economic sanctions on Iran. Iranian President met with Irish Minister of Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney and said, “Iran is ready to immediately take compensatory measures based on the nuclear deal and fulfill its commitments just after the US illegal sanctions are lifted and it abandons its policy of threats and pressure”. He also criticized the European signatories of the historic nuclear deal. Rouhani said Iran is the only country that kept its side of the bargain. The former US President Donald Trump withdrew the US from the Iranian nuclear accord in 2018.
However, Tehran had agreed to limit its uranium enrichment in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions. Iran gradually and publicly abandoned the deal’s limits on its nuclear development when the US then re-imposed some sanctions and added others. It is noteworthy that the Republic of Ireland has a key role as a facilitator in the implementation of the nuclear deal. Coveney said the withdrawal of former US President Trump was a mistake. He pointed out that the new US administration is determined to return to the deal. Iranian parliament approved a bill in December that calls for the suspension of part of UN inspections of its nuclear facilities if European signatories to the 2015 nuclear deal do not provide relief from oil and banking sanctions.
Various other news outlets including Arab News also reported that Iranian President Hassan Rouhani issued a statement after meeting with the Irish Minister of Foreign Affairs. Point to be noted that relations between Washington and Tehran have shown severe during the presidency of Donald Trump. The Last 4 years were full of tensions as Washington ordered the killing of Iranian commander Qaseem Sulemani. The killing of the Iranian commander filled anger among the Iranian people against the United States. Tehran immediately responded and targeted US troops at Iraqi borders.
