A Famous Journalist Valdez Cárdenas Killed in Mexico by Drug Dealers
A veteran reporter 50 years old Javier Valdez Cárdenas was shot and killed in an attack near his co-founded newspaper offices in Mexico on 15th May 2017. He extensively reported on the Mexican drug trade. The weekly publication of Valdez “Ríodoce” also confirmed his death and said that he was attacked by some unidentified gunmen during driving his car. His newspaper is based in Culiacán at the Northwestern Mexican State of Sinaloa. Valdez was the author of 10 books including Malayerba, in which he cataloged the history of violence encircling the drug industry in the Northern Mexico and Narcoperiodismo. It covers how journalists are being affected or scared by drug dealers. This book enabled him in earning an International Press Freedom Award in 2011 from the Committee to Protect Journalists.
The executive director of CPJ (Committee to Protect Journalists) Joel Simon said that “His loss will be a blow to the Mexican journalism and to the public of Mexico”. He also worked for the France-Press Agency as a correspondent. The global news director for the AFP wire service, Michele Leridon called the authorities of the country to shed entire possible light on his cowardly murder. Valdez mentioned Ríodoce as a news paper in 2012 and it was founded by a bunch of crazy journalists and crusty dreamers with the basic principal intention of doing serious journalism to investigate. The death of Valdez marks the 6th killing of a journalist in 2017 in just Mexico. Police department hasn’t yet made any arrest connected to his death.
