Did Facebook Ban a User Saying “God Bless” ?
A Facebook page ‘American Patriot’s Resistance’ republished a specific screen shot on 13th November 2015. This page indicated a claim that a Facebook account for a user Shelly Smith has been suspended for at least 30 days. The reason behind this decision is due to she used the phrase ‘God Bless’ and it was considered as violation against the standard of social media network community. The ‘American Patriot’s Resistance Facebook page further said that ‘our dear friends, Facebook moderation strikes again, but we need liberty and freedom of thoughts not cruelty. Why this decision was taken? Due to the post having words GOD BLESS!
We found that screenshot in the published Facebook page didn’t mention that ‘God Bless’ term is breaking the Facebook community standards. Another post linked with this post indicated about the personal information of a private individual with a provocation for users to get in touch and protest against the party who helped in imposing ban on Smith’s Facebook account. Most of the rumors also used USMC tags purportedly are being banned by the Facebook administration. A Facebook representative confirmed that this kinds of words such as ‘God Bless’ are not violating the standards of the Facebook community and it is just a rumor and there is not any kind of truth in this story because we didn’t ban any Facebook account due to this specific reason.
