Fabricated Salon Products Were Being Sold by T.J Maxx and Marshall
Several reproduced messages and photographs started circulation on Facebook in the month of May 2016 including claims that underneath hidden labels of expensive salon-brand hair products purchased low quality brands at discounts & cheaper price from retailers. Most of the published photographs were showing the CHI line of hair care products with T.J. Maxx price tag. After peeling the half label of a bottle, it was showing lower quality and less expensive hair care product. Most of the claims included a statement that salon-brand hair products should be purchased from hair salons, but should not be purchased from discount retailers. A social media rumor published a similar version and indicated that eyelash supplements can create “lash lice”. Another rumor indicated that Pantene can be flammable in coordination with famous hair-lightening treatments.
CHI also replied regarding the published photographs and company explained that showing CHI products were genuine and labeling was considered a part of fluctuation in manufacturing. The company also said that cutting back was considered unnecessary wastage. The statement of the company confirmed that relabeling of bottles doesn’t have any difference than any other brand and these products can be bought from discount departmental store or from salon. Both manufacturer and retailer said that packaging was just a company matter and material inside was original & specific to products that was being sold in non-discount retail stores and in salons. But, the rumors would remain among less moral salons and stylists looking to alert clients to avoid low-quality & less-priced substitutes.
