A number of article started circulation on the internet in the mid of January 2016 describing that a new law to be imposed that men in Eritrea should marry at least two women to strengthen their slumping population.  The campaigners have posted memo supposedly by the Eritrea Government, asking the men of Eritrea to marry with at least two women because the unavailability of men due to the deaths in the civil war with Ethiopia. The meme referred to the Arabic statement that Arabic government is supporting bigamous marriages. The campaigners translated it and stated that law of God allows plural marriage.

This meme also described that country is currently experiencing critical situation regarding the shortage of men. The Eritrean Religious Affairs department has determined that the described story has been taken from a website ‘Crazy World’, but it is quite similar to those stories that randomly appeared on a number of different social media websites including many fake Nigerian news websites. Some posts also included image supposedly showing an official document motivating the Eritrean men to get marry with at least two women. We uncover the latest post and it was published on 22^nd January 2016 with only a single comment that “It was a good joke”. The government official of Eritrean rapidly responded and said to BBC that described story in this kind of news doesn’t have any kind of truth.
