Controversial Year-Round Sale of E-15 and decision of Trump
The corn farmers in Iowa have been waiting years to be made the promise (the year-round sale of E-15 ethanol). The U.S Senator Grassley, Senator Ted Cruz, and Senator Joni Ernst met with the U.S President Trump to discuss the issue. The U.S Sen. Grassley said that Trump has shown his agreement to finish the E-15 regulation. This rule prevents the ethanol blended gas from being sold between 1st June and 15th September. This step would provide a significant amount of benefit to corn farmers of Iowa by offering consumers a cheaper & high-octane option instead of the traditional unleaded gas. Some renewable fuel experts said that oil industry is pushing back and it will not be as simple as just signing off on it by the U.S President.
The Director of Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, Monte Shaw said that it is a great news and we have been working on getting E-15 allowed for sale year-round and maybe 7-years. It massively falls into the hands of EPA and appointed the director by Trump, Scott Pruitt. Pruitt wants to conduct a regulatory hearing and called it the “enforcement discretion”. The EPA is the only authority to allow the sale but hasn’t yet released more details. The U.S Senator Grassley said that Pruitt and/ or Sonny Perdue (the Secretary of Agriculture) haven’t yet indicated when it will be happened prior to the deadline of 1st June 2018. Grassley said in a reference to Perdue that he had the discussion with the U.S President in the yesterday meeting. The U.S Senator Ted Cruz and Director Shaw are trying to undercut the struggles to deregulate E-15 sales by presenting their own change.
