Was a Child Detained & Handcuffed at Dulles Airport?
A Facebook user shared a reproduced image on 31st January 2017 by showing a little boy in handcuffs against the circumstances of a debate over new executive order of immigration entry restrictions along with the caption “Detained at Dulles, I feel so much safer now”. A continuous debate regarding the executive order of Trump has been considered a hot topic. This executive order is preventing the entry in the United States from 11 countries. A large number of social media users assumed that this image was showing a little child detained at Dulles International Airport due to the new immigration policy of Trump. When we tried to find out the authenticity of this news, we found that the posted image was published in the month of August 2015.
The actual incident regarding the image was a controversy in Kentucky. The image was showing sheriff’s deputies handcuffing little students with learning disabilities. The reports indicated that ACLU had sued Deputy Kevin Sumner of Kenton County Sheriff. He was performing duty as a school resource officer at Latonia Elementary School in Covington. Sumner was allegedly involved in handcuffing to 8-years old boy and 9-years old girl. Point to be noted that both students have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The posted image wasn’t circulated in error and it wasn’t supposedly misidentified. But, it didn’t show a handcuffed little child detained at Dulles International Airport in the month of January 2017. The published image was actually showing a child detained at a school in the month of August 2015.
