In 2012, a Pharmacist shot himself before the parliament in the Greek capital Athens, and he left a notice, where he made responsible, the entire government’s austerity policies, and his decision to take his life was solely the policies of the government.
This tragedy was one of the several tragedies, which was selected by the study authors, who gave their lives just because of the austerity within the 30 years of effects of Austerity policies. Along with this, there were number of events in consideration as well like the event of 2004 of Olympic Games.
According to the reports, issued in 2012, these reports showed that a total of 11505 people took their lives from 1982 to 2012, and these numbers included 9079 men, and 2446 women. Along with this, same Austerity measures were also introduced, and according to those figures, there was a rise of 35%, with an average of 11.2 suicides a month, and this figure was sustained in the coming years until 2012.
AS compare to the other months, in which a series of austerity measures were passed by the Greek government, June 2011 comes as a most significant year as this was the first part of the larger austerity plan that was passed by the very narrow voting.
The authors acknowledged about their studies that it might be limited by bias that could lead to the misclassification of the suicide, and there are also the probabilities that these reports are under-reporting. Here is an example, where we can easily find out that Greek Orthodox Church considers Suicide as a sin and it condemns those, who gave their lives rather than to fight with the problem. In this way, what is required to be performed is the dedication and problem solving mind that can help a man to get the best.
Although, there were number of more analysis, which was conducted to include settling for probable under reporting demonstrated same increases in suicide in June 2011, and with this, it was suggested that there is a need to issuance of more measures, which could become significant with the passage of time.
With the Syriza party, at present, in government, and promising to end the austerity measures soon, and with this, country will see an improvements in its collective well-being as well its economy.
