April’s Full Pink Moon could bring Rain, Chill, or Freeze
The sky will brighten with April’s full moon during the entire weekend. The full moon isn’t pink but is named the Pink Moon. NASA confirmed that April’s Pink Moon will appear from early Friday to Monday morning. The moon will show its peak brightness level at 2:55 pm ET, on Saturday, April 16, 2022.
The full moon of April is affiliated with the springtime blooming of the plant Phlox subulate. The Old Farmer’s Guide says it is a pink wildflower native to eastern North America. This plant is also famous for moss phlox, mountain phlox, or creeping phlox.
The Guide says the above-mentioned Native American names for the full moon of April were tributes to the spring season. The Tlingit tribe named it Budding Moon of Plants referring to the winter season completion and regeneration of plant proliferation. However, the Dakota tribe labeled it the Moon during the clear streams.
April’s Full Moon is the Pink Moon
Moreover, the Pink Moon is also a home with various religious holidays. The Christian ecclesiastical calendar mentions April’s full moon as the Paschal Moon. It is noteworthy that April’s full moon appears before the Christian event of Easter.
April’s full moon is also named Hanuman Jayanti in the Hindu religion. It marks the Hindu monkey deity Lord Hanuman’s celebration. However, Buddhists named the pink moon Bak Poya, specifically in Sri Lanka. It honors Buddha’s visit to the island country when Buddha settled a dispute between chiefs and stopped a war.
Pink Moon could freeze this Weekend
This April’s pink moon isn’t a super-moon contrary to the past 2 years, but it still comes with its own tradition. The Old Farmer’s Guide also said a full moon in the month of April presents a chill. You can also expect rain if the full moon appears milky.
A Meteorologist Judson Jones said there is supposedly an opportunity of rain or freeze this weekend. But people will experience some points decreasing temperature levels in the morning during this weekend and become a pale moon. There are still 8 full moon events to come in 2022 after this April’s Pink Moon including 2 super-moons.
Next Full Moon of 2022
Moreover, the following are the most famous names affiliated with the monthly full moons. The consequences of each one could differ across Native American tribes. May 16 is set for the Flower Moon and the Strawberry Moon will appear on June 14.
Buck moon will appear on July 13, Sturgeon Moon on August 11, and Harvest Moon will shine on September 10. Hunter’s moon will mark October 9, Beaver Moon on November 8, and Cold Moon will appear on December 7, 2022.
Lunar and Solar Eclipses
The Old Famers’ Guide says there is a total of 2 lunar eclipses and 2 halfway solar eclipses in 2022. Incomplete solar eclipses happen when the moon moves in front of the sun-blocking some of its light. A halfway solar eclipse took place on April 30.
The event was seen across southern South America, Antarctic Peninsula, and the Pacific Ocean. The next incomplete solar eclipse will take place on October 25, 2022. People in Iceland, Greenland, Northeastern Africa, Western Asia, the Middle East, and Europe are expected to see the event.
However, a lunar eclipse happens when the Earth, Sun, and Moon align and the moon passes into Earth’s shadow. The Earth creates 2 shadows on the full moon during the eclipse. The Penumbra is the incomplete outer shadow and the Umbra is a complete dark shadow. It will become darker but not disappear when the full moon moves into Earth’s shadow.
