NASA will use Amazon Alexa for Artemis Missions
The crewless Artemis 1 mission is scheduled before mid-2022. It was aimed at testing various technologies to support astronauts for their future missions. NASA said the voice artificial intelligence is added into a technology validation ‘Callisto’. This technology was developed under its space agreement with Lockheed Martin.
The vice president of Alexa Everywhere at Amazon, Aaron Rubenson issued a statement. He said the company is efficiently working with Lockheed Martin to cross the voice tech and AI limits. Alexa will hopefully provide an important role in the mission. It would help inspire future scientists, engineers, and astronauts to define the next stage of space exploration.
Callisto Device will use Alexa for Communication
The space agency basically selected the digital assistant for voice commands because engineers need to test it for Artemis missions. Moreover, Amazon, Cisco, and Lockheed Martin have planned to integrate Webex video and Alexa into the Orion spacecraft for Artemis of NASA.
Their collaboration will demonstrate the use of human-machine interface tech from flight controllers to explore space. The Callisto device will stick into the center console of the Orion spacecraft. It will use Alexa for communication with other mission members at the Johnson Space Center. This tech will allow astronauts to operate independently from Earth.
