We will speak to Trump “as equals” said Cuban President Diaz-Canel
The President of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel said that his government will not talk with the U.S President Donald Trump. President Diaz-Canel said in an interview with Venezuela-based television station Telesur, and it was broadcast on Sunday evening that “we need a dialogue but it should be as equals. We don’t accept implementations and we aren’t willing to make concessions. This was the first interview of Diaz-Canel since his joining the office in April. The relations between the United States and Cuba have sharply worsened since the U.S President Trump took office. Trump started partially rolling back the historic détente agreed by the former U.S President Barack Obama.
They have also worsened over what the United States says were a spate of health attacks on its diplomats based in Havana. Cuba rejected any involvement. Cuban President Diaz-Canel said that Cuba does not attack, Cuba defends, Cuba shares. He also referred many times throughout the interview to Fidel Castro (the late leader of the 1959 revolution) and his younger brother, Raul Castro. 87-years old Raul Castro is still head of the Communist Party until 2021. 58-years old Diaz-Canel said that Raul Castro is like a father and we talk nearly every day. President Diaz-Canel admired the long-standing alliance of Cuba with Venezuela. He also said that he welcomed the presidential victory of leftist Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador in Mexico and it was encouraging for Latin America. He said that the removal of the word “communism” didn’t mean Cuba was renouncing that aspiration.
