British Water-Park & Water-World Demanded Visitors to Wear Islamic Dress
One day after the Orlando Nightclub shooting incident, a website “This is England” published a breaking news on 13th June 2016 with a title that “British water-park bans bikinis and instructed visitors to wear appropriate full clothes”. This news item was frequently shared on Twitter and Facebook, but readers only viewed the headline and the impression went away that Water-world has implemented the Islamic friendly dress code for their entire park at all the times. The content of news item mentioned that the headline indicated just a single event when the park was supposedly closed and the headline showed entirely different story than described in the content.
Point to be noted that the published claim was not a new publication and its original publication date not to be considered 13th June 2016. We found that both the image of header and the content inside the news story were matched with an article published by “tabloid Express” on 14th June 2015. The Water-world also published a post of Facebook with clarifying that several events were scheduled for hours after closing the park for the general public on the Muslim night. The park didn’t impose ban on bikinis and didn’t demand to wear Islamic specific dress.
