More Than 643,000 Filings Regarding Medical Bankruptcy in the United States
A Facebook page published a reproduced meme in the month of April 2016 and reported that more than 643,000 Americans pointed out the bankruptcy every year on medical bills. The bankruptcy over medical bills in a number of other countries in the world doesn’t exist because the adoption of national social health insurance and medical care systems. A reference was provided at the bottom of this reproduced meme, “Source: NerdWallet Health Analysis”, but didn’t provide a target link for this specific analysis. This item was assumingly published on 19th July 2013 by “NerdWallet” related to medical bankruptcies. The NerdWallet repeatedly mentioned in its analysis that their analysis to be considered as “estimates or calculations”.
The NerdWallet also said that their data is not latest and collected from the analysis of 2013. Point to be noted that published meme on the Facebook page mentioned figures 643,000 Americans, but NerdWallet didn’t mention this figure in its article. The NerdWallet pointed out 1,032,236 Americans in its article posted in the year 2013. We also found that another medical bill regarding bankruptcy mentioned 619,342 Americans, which was close to the figures pointed out by the Facebook page. But, it is important that bankruptcy filing can technically represent to more than one person. The CNBC also indicated on the base of NerdWallet “Health Analysis” and it also added a chart mentioning the total estimated number of filing related to medical bankruptcies in the United States in the year 2013. So, this meme has some true and some false statements.
