The former Beatle John Lennon was killed with a gunshot by a mentally upset dominated fan on 8th December 1980. Widow of Lennon, Yoko Ono said that at least one million deaths with gunshots have been recorded in the United States since her husband was murdered in December 1980. Yoko Ono also made a related claim in 2013 and tweeted that more than 1,057,000 American people have been killed with shotguns in the United States since the death of John Lennon. She didn’t mention her information source, but many members of the U.S Centers of Disease Control partially confirmed her statement.

The U.S Centers for Disease Control issued a statement that 620,525 deaths recorded from 1981 to 1998 with gunshots and 464,033 deaths recorded from 1999 to 2013. The CDC has not yet announced data for 2014, but if we suppose the figures of deaths with gunshots in the last five years then we can roughly estimate the number of deaths in 2014 can be 32,500 and same in the year 2015. When we analyze the data provided by CDC, we will find that Yoko Ono is much closer to the original number of deaths with gunshots in the last 35 years. Yoko Ono pointed out the figure of more than one million deaths with gunshots and according to CDC it is at least 1,149,000 deaths with gunfire in the United States since December 1980. Point to be noted that the original stats provided by CDC referred all gunshot deaths and not just international killing. It is important that all accidental and suicide deaths have been included in this counting.
